On this week’s episode of Formula 1’s Beyond the Grid podcast, host Tom Clarkson is joined by returning guest Alain Prost – as the French driver comes back to discuss his last world title in 1993, his relationship with Ayrton Senna, working with Adrian Newey, almost re-joining Ferrari and much more...
After retiring as a three-time world champion at the end of the 1991 season, Prost returned with Williams in 1993, winning his fourth and final title that year. But the French driver explains why that was the “worst” of his championship winning seasons, and what made it so difficult.
He also reveals the conversations that he had with Frank Williams that convinced him to sign for Williams after his year out – although he mentions that he nearly re-joined Ferrari during the 1992 season, and again later to serve as a number two to Michael Schumacher.
Prost discusses his relationship with former team mate and rival Senna, and why their differences on and off the track caused them to clash as much as they did, before also comparing what it was like driving for Williams and McLaren.
